• DIY Research Guide for the non-expert researcher

We're all aware of the explosion in use of online survey packages, often by non-expert researchers for whom this may be a first foray into the wonderful world of market research!

The advice in this Guide applies to quantitative business-to-business, business-to-consumer and employee surveys. It does not cover the technical aspects of choosing an online survey package or managing an online survey, but rather concentrates on the topics which online survey packages do not typically advise upon, including identifying a sample frame and understanding and communicating your results.

We have divided the Guide into four sections:

  1. Which types of survey work best as online DIY?
  2. How to write a good questionnaire
  3. The importance of sampling
  4. Making sense of it all: How to analyse and report findings accurately

Sections 2, 3 and 4 also have separate supporting PowerPoint documents which go into more detail. These documents can be downloaded using the links on the right.
