Microlaunch wins 2018 Independents’ Day Award
Congratulations to Mike Roe of Microlaunch who last night collected the 2018 Independents’ Day Award at the Market Research Society (MRS) Awards dinner.
Mike won the award for his launch of Microlaunch online, a market research training simulation which educates participants in evidence-based decision making. Microlaunch complements marketing research teaching and lectures by bringing the theories to life. It challenges individuals or small teams to design, develop and launch a new brand during the game, by applying marketing insights from pieces of research.
On winning the Independents’ Day Award, Mike Roe said, “My ‘Microlaunch online’ MR training simulation represented a tough 5-step personal journey: 1 - design; 2 - programming; 3 – testing; 4 – sales promotion; 5 - implementation. The ICG/MRS Award now adds stage 6 – recognition! I am very grateful. This endorsement will hopefully encourage more universities, agencies and client-siders to offer their students, young researchers and trainee marketers the ‘great learning; great fun!’ this unique game provides.”
The Microlaunch simulation represents a template for customised scenarios within the research world. Mike hopes that potential users will work with him to identify how it can be adapted for their own research training needs.
Diverse, quality entries

Jane Frost, MRS CEO, welcomed more than 850 guests to this year’s MRS Awards - the night of the year for the research industry – at the new venue of Old Billingsgate in the City of London. Mike Roe joined Independents’ Day Award finalists on the ICG table, for an evening of celebration and networking.
Celebrating independent researchers
Now in its third year, the Independents’ Day Award is run jointly by the ICG and MRS and celebrates that huge contribution that independent consultants make to the research industry.
“It has been great to see the Independents’ Day Award grow over the last three years alongside our relationship with the ICG,” says John Bizzell, MRS Events & Awards Manager. “Together we’ve succeeded in raising awareness of the unique services micro-businesses can offer clients and given them a place in the spotlight alongside larger agencies, where they belong.”
