SUMMARY:How can LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® be used in qualitative market research?
DESCRIPTION:This webinar is generously sponsored by iPoint Market Research.  \n  \nJoin us to hear from Per Kristiansen\, a Master Trainer and co-founder of LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® and ICG member Giulia Fabrizi\, a certified practitioner of this method. \nPer will explain the scientific foundations of the method and Giulia will take you through some interesting applications of the method for qualitative market research (business and consumer). \n \nMore specifically\, this webinar will take you through; \n\nThe neuroscientific foundation of LSP. The foundations of the method are inspired by several theories including Piaget’s constructivism\, Papert’s constructionism and neuroscience. In extreme synthesis\, when you build with your own hands\, you activate connections between hand and mind that can awaken knowledge; this knowledge allows you to see a situation from a different point of view and offers new elements to face and manage it\, drawing on the enormous wealth of skills and competences that are not always used\, following the patterns of experience.\nLSP as a business and consumer tool.  LSP can help teams t analyze the brand vision and the brand/company DNA. LSP can also help consumers uncover the values they associate with the brand/company. It can be also applied to so many other requirements\, e.g. customer or patient journeys\,  support in NPD or service development\, or store layout development.\n\nPer Kristiansen \nPer Kristiansen is currently a partner in Trivium\, a Copenhagen based consultancy. He joined Trivium in 2006. Per focuses on LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® and delivers facilitator training programs and works directly with his own clients. He works all over the world. Together with Robert Rasmussen\, he is the author of the book “Building a Better Business with the LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® method”\, published in July 2014. For information on the LSP courses\, visit: https://seriousplay.training/ \nGiulia Fabrizi \nGiulia Fabrizi is a qualitative market researcher and ICG member\, working in this field since more than 20 years. She loves to connect various disciplines and explore new fields in which qualitative research can be blended and infused. \nMORE ABOUT LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® \nREGISTER FOR THIS FREE WEBINAR HERE – OPEN TO ICG MEMBERS AND NON MEMBERS  \n  \nLogin on the day is https://global.gotomeeting.com/join/145863309 \n\n

SUMMARY:Using video insight to empower small agencies and freelancers. Tools\, tips and tricks for effective and commercial research
DESCRIPTION:This webinar is generously sponsored by Web Creator Suite \n   \n  \nUsing video in the market research world comes in many forms\, and with skills in video varying across researchers and agencies\, Dan and Roseann of The Word Is Out (also ICG members) want to share their knowledge in delivering effective and commercial insight with video. \nThis webinar will answer the following; \n\nWhat does best practice for video in research look like? \nHow can I get a client to invest in a video project? \nWhat tools are available to researchers besides online communities? \nHow do we make video insight commercial? \nHow can I be more innovative with video? \n\nWith a rise in remote ethnography in 20/21\, more and more respondents are available to complete online video calls and diary tasks. However\, getting clients and participants engaged and receptive to both remote and in-person video projects can bring its own challenges. \nThe Word Is Out think that there is even more scope to be innovative and creative in our work as researchers. We’re only just scratching the surface on what we can achieve using video. They want to arm fellow freelancers and small agencies with a variety of tips and best practice from their experience in the video industry to put into practice when producing their own creative insight stories. \nAbout The Word Is Out \n \nSpecialists in video-driven\, qualitative insight\, at The Word is Out we fuse our experience in market research and the video industry to deliver engaging and innovative outputs to our clients. SUMMARY:Why Cultural Insight Is Important For Research
DESCRIPTION:  \nThis webinar is generously sponsored by MIS Group \n \n  \nThis webinar will be presented by ICG member Felicia Schwartz\, China Insight. \nIt will explore the crossover between two areas Felicia is active in – cultural insights and market research. Although we often use market research to uncover cultural insight it is interesting to explore whether we shouldn’t integrate culture into the design of research from inception on. Felicia  routinely come across briefs that make assumptions or ask questions that are not culturally right for my region (greater China) or that miss cultural nuance when pulling together the analysis. \nAlthough her examples will all be taken from China\, she hopes others will share other cultural examples so that everyone can think together about integrating cultural nuance into our research projects and about how to make clients more alive to this topic. \nEMAIL HERE TO REGISTER FOR THIS FREE WEBINAR \n  \nUPDATED LOGIN FOR THE WEBINAR \nJoin Zoom Meeting \nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/89623746113?pwd=NUwvRlE3bWZET05hV3V0UjhGVHhhdz09 \nMeeting ID: 896 2374 6113 \nPasscode: 563055 \n  \nAbout Felicia \n \nFelicia has pursued an international career in branding working for global communication agencies Ogilvy and Dentsu. SUMMARY:Skilled looking - Ethnography\, Photography and Documentary Film in Qualitative Research
DESCRIPTION:This session is generously sponsored by Web Creator Suite\, probably the best online qual research platform that you might not have heard of yet… long term communities\, discussions\, homework tasks\, live chats\, product testing and much more.  \nICG member Joe Bonnell has recently completed a MA in visual anthropology and will share some ideas\, tips and reflections to like-minded researchers and open a discussion for those members want to know more. \nAfter many years working as a qualitative researcher\, conducing focus groups and interviews\, using projective and enabling techniques\, Joe found himself growing increasingly interested in longer-term\, participatory and ethnographic research methods. At the same time\, he wanted to be able to incorporate film and photography into his work as a way of reporting and communicating findings. So he took a sabbatical and invested in some professional development to learn some new skills and ways of working. \nJoe would be happy to share some of what he learned during the MA using examples of my work and discuss how others could go about incorporating film and photography in to their work. \nOut of the session: \n\nAn intro and some background – who Joe is\, the journey that led him to this point – why visual anthropology?\nA brief intro to visual anthropology and ethnography\nConducting research with a camera\, and the idea of “skilled looking”\nSome photographic examples of my work to illustrate some key principles\nA short film (15 mins)\nFollowed by a discussion and Q&A\n\nNO NEED TO REGISTER FOR THIS: JUST LOGIN HERE: \nhttps://global.gotomeeting.com/join/145863309 \nYou can also dial in using your phone.\nUnited Kingdom: +44 20 3713 5011 \nAccess Code: 145-863-309 \nAbout Joe \n \nJoe is an award-winning qualitative researcher with over 20 years’ experience working with a wide range of commercial\, charity and public sector clients in the UK and internationally. Joe’s research career began aged 16\, working as a CATI interviewer for IPSOS! This was followed by research roles in media and advertising agencies\, a specialist public-sector research consultancy and an agency specialising in international development research. Along the way\, Joe qualified as a primary school teacher and an ILM level 7 leadership coach. In 2013\, Joe combined his research experience with teaching and coaching to set up OpenQuestions\, which specialises in building the qualitative skills of researchers working on international development projects. Joe has designed\, conducted and overseen research from Pakistan to Papua New Guinea\, Nottingham to Nigeria\, Kent to Kenya and many places in between. He continues to run qual project in the UK and abroad. \nIn 2018 Joe took a sabbatical to complete an MA in Visual Anthropology at The University of Manchester’s Granada Centre\, which is recognised as the world’s leading centre for visual anthropology.  Joe graduated with a distinction in 2019\, specialising in ethnographic research and the use of documentary film and photography as both a research method and as a means of communicating insight.

SUMMARY:IR35 : Concerned about your status? What are the solutions? RECORDING
DESCRIPTION:This webinar is generously sponsored by Talkback Studio\, Nottingham \nFollowing on from the success of her last webinar to us\, Liz Norman of Elizabeth Norman International (ENI)\, will take us through the latest developments in IR35 regulation and outline what this means for us as small businesses. \nAbout IR35 \nIR35 legislation already exists within the public sector.  The government intended it to include the private sector from April 2020 but postponed it because of the pandemic; it’s now scheduled for April the 6th 2021. \nLiz Norman ENI\, and Tina Holt JT HR Solutions\, will talk about what the legislation covers\, the changes to the contract market that will result and possible solutions for individual contractors. \nAs the legislation still isn’t statute there is a very small possibility of further delay\, however most think it’s inevitable.  The cost to the government of delaying is £1.9 billion a year.  So now is the time to think what this means for you and the best way to approach working as a contractor moving forward. \nWATCH THE WEBINAR HERE  \n  \nLiz Norman – ENI \n \nLiz had a short career as a ‘market researcher’\, in truth more of a market analyst – there was confusion with job titles even then!  Working first for IBM\, part of a small market research team\, looking at whether IBM should go into the PC market and then for Media Audits (then a competitor of Ebiquity) conducting campaign analysis. \nLiz then joined a small marketing recruitment firm\, setting up their market research division\, before setting up ENI specialising in recruitment across the insight industry in 1989. \nWorking across a wide variety of clients\, including large manufacturers\, advertising and media agencies and a variety of research agencies\, ENI eventually branched out into international markets with offices in Asia and Australia. \nToday ENI’s recruitment is 80% permanent\, but the 20% contract and temp market is growing steadily with our longest established contractor working for us continuously now for five years.  ENI’s continues to work across a range of clients and countries.  We currently have contractors working for Samsung\, PepsiCo\, Kantar\, Relish\, Hall and Partners\, and 2cv. \nA member of APSCO the professional body representing the recruitment industry\, Liz has taken their legal advice as well as the advice of individual lawyers on IR35 and its implications. \nTina Holt – JT HR Solutions \n \nTina Holt of JT HR Solutions Limited is an HR Expert who for 20+ years worked within two major global oil and gas/technical engineering recruitment businesses as a Global HR Director.  In 2018 Tina established JT HR Solutions to bring the HR knowledge and expertise gained in a global recruitment business into the SME market.  JT HR Solutions work predominantly within the recruitment sector\, supporting SME’s who require HR support and guidance with their people strategy as well as their people related issues. \n

SUMMARY:ICG Training: Comfort and Delusion in Perpetuating Racism
DESCRIPTION:This session was kindly sponsored by Web Creator Suite and Teneo Translations \nTHIS SESSION TOOK PLACE IN DECEMBER 2020. A SHORT SUMMARY OF IT IS HERE.  \nIF YOU WOULD LIKE TO PURCHASE THE FULL RECORDING OF THE SESSION (£10)\, CONTACT LUCIE ON MANAGER@THEICG.CO.UK \n  \nChris Arning of Creative Semiotics Ltd  and Asif Noorani of Epiphany Productions\, will take ICG members through a session to encourage better awareness and empathy when dealing with issues around racism in their work and lives. Chris and Asif are communication professionals who come with a unique background – effectively they are both inside and outside of mainstream white British culture which means that they won’t duck the issues but will come at it with a nuance and sensitivity that transcends the unhelpfully polarised nature of mainstream media discourse. \nMore tangibly\, the uniqueness of the session will the fact they will weave together and share their own experiences\, and then ground these in a specialist knowledge of Semiotics and Behavioural Economics\, finally opening up the discussion for participants’ own experiences and thoughts. \nThe session will not just be educational but should lead to commercial benefits that include: \n\nBetter\, less biased overall decision making by overcoming Comfort and Delusion\nEncourage awareness across all aspects of business (clients\, colleagues\, respondents)\nHigher value derived from more collaborative\, diverse projects and organisations.\nEnsure more inclusive communication that caters to and attracts more diversity\nCan lead to the ICG publishing a diversity policy that shows its commitment to this.\n\nOur speakers will be setting out two hypotheses about how racist thinking becomes perpetuated in well-meaning people\, each rooted in an area of expertise. The Comfort Hypothesis\, rooted in behavioural economics and The Delusion Hypothesis rooted in semiotics.   What you’re getting in this session is the distillation of combined 40 years work in each of these areas. The speakers also bring their background and lived experience not only as British People of Colour\, but as private school educated insight professionals\, and self-employed consultants. Their methodology and approach will be challenging while constructive (not accusatory)\, conceptual but personal\, and above all human\, since no panaceas exist for this. \nThis will be more than just a webinar to raise awareness\, awareness is higher than it has ever been. Though there are no easy fixes though we will learn about immediate steps we can take to identify\, acknowledge and overcome the empathy gap\, address it and start to nudge behaviours. \nAbove all our speakers look forward to sharing knowledge but also learning from your experiences in and around this still taboo societal issue. \nChris Arning  \n \nChris the son of a Caribbean born mother and Anglo-Irish-German father born in Manchester. Chris is Brit-ish and grew up in London politically black but was raised culturally white\, which was confusing and which if he’d been born in another country might have led to the Presidency. In the UK he has had to settle for being a ‘poor man’s Richard Ayoade! Chris writes poetry\, does stand-up comedy\, runs Creative Semiotics\, teaches Contextual Studies and is a member of #HipHopEd. He has conducted semiotic studies on cultural identity for the BBC including for 1Xtra. He recently reviewed #BlackOutTuesday responses for trends house Canvas 8 and has been writing and blogging on race and representation since the #BlackLivesMatter movement. \nAsif Noorani \n \nAsif Noorani is the son of immigrant Pakistani Muslim parents.  Growing up in Manchester\, he managed to disappoint everyone by not becoming a doctor.  His lived experience of the  second-generation culture clash\, fed an appetite to embrace the unknown\, find patterns of meaning and share stories through film.  Asif heads up Epiphany Productions where as a behavioural economist and storyteller he has worked with organisations including NHS\, BBC\, Home Office\, Arts Council\, and the Digital Democracy Commission to explore and tackle diversity and inclusion challenges. The burning question in all his work right now is whether after the pandemic and George Floyd’s killing\, we will make good on our good intentions? \n

SUMMARY:ICG webinar: How To Sweat Your Insight Assets: Get Smarter Without Spending A Lot Of Money
DESCRIPTION:This webinar is generously sponsored by Accu-Scribe\, for all your transcription needs \n \nWe are frequently asked to do more with less.  This is especially true in the insights world where our jobs include not only turning information into knowledge but then communicating knowledge to others.  One obvious but sometimes overlooked money-saving tactic is “sweating your assets”\, i.e.\, getting as much use as possible out of what you already possess. \nICG member Curtis Arthur\, founder of KnowledgeActiv8\, will share practical tips for sweating insight assets by using simple\, low cost templates and tools.  These include: \n\nThe advantages of building and maintaining a knowledge system that can be searched\, skimmed\, and quoted easily by anyone in the organisation\nA framework to create a one-page abstract of projects that includes relevant findings as well as links to the source materials and contact details\nA What We Know summary which ensures baseline knowledge\, shuts down factual misrepresentations\, and provides a context for future learnings\nA What We Don’t Know summary which identifies knowledge gaps vis-à-vis your customer strategy and allows you to develop and prioritise upcoming projects.\n\nPlease join us… \nREGISTER FOR THIS FREE WEBINAR HERE.  \n \n

SUMMARY:Using reporting innovations to come out of Covid stronger and with greater profit margins
DESCRIPTION:This webinar is generously sponsored by Perspective Research Services \nWith thanks to E-Tabs for running this webinar. \n \nThere is an increasing demand for interactive access to survey results\, and many clients are asking for secure and instant visualization of their data online to complement or even replace static reports of their survey results. His innovative approach has seen the company provide reporting services and solutions to the MR industry for over 25 years. With over two decades of industry knowledge\, Benjamin is a talented entrepreneur who recognises the integral role technology plays in market research. SUMMARY:ICG Webinar (Pre-Recorded): TSAPI - Your Questions Needed!
DESCRIPTION:Calling all ICG members to send questions (however challenging) to Matt Gibbs directly\, or ICG Manager Lucie (if you prefer to be anonymous to Matt)\, in order to shape the content of this pre-recorded webinar. Final deadline for questions – Friday 4th Sept. Webinar will be available to view on Monday 14th Sept. \nThe ICG recently helped launch a new initiative to create an API standard for Transferring Survey data – TSAPI.  Since launch ICG members have asked several interesting questions and generally wanted more information about the initiative.  The launch video can be viewed here. \nThe TSAPI initiative is currently in its first consultation period\, and Matt Gibbs (ICG member and core TSAPI team) is very keen to include independents and micro businesses in that discussion.  Matt will answer any questions ICG members have about TSAPI in an upcoming webinar.  Webinar content will be defined by ICG member questions\, so please send any queries and ideas you have to Matt or Lucie (if you prefer to stay anonymous to Matt) by Friday 4th September.  No matter how general or specific\, Matt will consult with the TSAPI team and answer as best he can. \nA webinar for everyone – not just for quantitative researchers \nThis session is not just for quant techies\, but should be of interest to everyone.  It’s an opportunity for us all understand more about the non-profit initiative\, to share our ideas\, and discuss how it might influence the future of market researching practice.  As Matt says\, from coders to clients TSAPI needs your ideas and support.  Everybody’s welcome! \nThe TSAPI initiative was launched globally on the 5th of August\, via the Australian National MR Conference\, in the UK via the Association for Survey Computing (ASC)\, the Market Research Society (MRS)\, Independent Consultants Group (ICG)\, and Research Live.  Then on US time via Quirk’s Media and publicised by MRweb. \nAbout Matt Gibbs \n \nMatt is Managing Director and Founder of Bayes Price – offering data connection\, analysis\, visualisation and insight to the market research and business intelligence communities. \nHe is keen to promote innovation and collaboration throughout the industry\, not least by participating in\, and helping to organise national and international conferences.  He’s an ICG member\, part of the core TSAPI development team\, a full member of the Market Research Society\, an active member of The Australian Research Society\, and sits as Vice Chair on the committee for the Association for Survey Computing (ASC). \nMatt combines a Masters in Sociological Research Methods with over 15 years’ experience in professional Market Research.  He enjoys merging established theory with contemporary technique\, finding solutions which offer more for less\, and is very keen to add to the conversation at any industry event with a good bar.  Should that conversation move beyond data and into the realms of music and/or cricket\, more’s the pleasure. \n Presentation slides/webinar recording will be available here by Monday 14th Sept \n
