Hi, I’m Becky; I’ve been a researcher since 2004.
Actually, as part of post-uni travelling in Ghana, I did work experience in media planning and thought that would be my career. But while interviewing for one of the big media agencies in London, somebody very wise suggested I’d be really at home in market research and pointed me in the direction of Millward Brown….
And now after 14 years at agencies (Millward Brown and later BDRC Continental [now BVA-BDRC]), I’m working as a freelance market and social researcher.
I’m friendly and down-to-earth, proud of trusting and open relationships with my clients. I’m skilled in both quant and qual methods – I especially enjoy projects which involve combining several data sources for a more holistic perspective on a topic – and as a freelancer I’ve worked with both agencies and client-side teams. I have specific expertise in the transport sector, after four years heading up the Transport team at BDRC.
One particular highlight of my career so far has been working with people with a wide variety of disabilities – physical, learning, social and behavioural – using qual, quant and mystery traveller approaches to understand access needs and experiences relating to public transport as well as other areas. This has given me great experience in (and showed me that I’m quite good at!) gathering insights from these diverse groups in a sensitive, non-patronising manner; I’d love to do more of this in the future.
