Overview
I work on a ad hoc basis with a range of agencies - research, creative, behaviour-change - as a freelance multi-disciplinary research department. I design, run and present research to inform and inspire them and their clients.
Services
I am an independent researcher with a background in both qualitative and quantitative methodologies. My clients fit into one of three buckets
Agencies without inhouse researchers who need a professional researcher to design and run projects or conduct research reviews
Research agencies when they face a resource crunch
End clients
I've worked across sectors (FMCG, pharma, food and drink etc.), although increasingly I'm working more on pro-social causes. For example, I've interviewed landlords and tenants to inform a government-funded initiatve in Leeds to improve the rental sector, I've helped the RNID better understand the experience of hearing loss and people's relationship with hearing protection / aids and I've run a quant project to help a large UK charity identify its optimal communications strategy.
So whether it's strategic or executional, explorative or test and inform; my breadth of experience means that I help clients on a range of problems and provide consistent, high-quality insight.
About
I am one of those researchers who fell into the career - but for the right reasons! At university I studied history and politics - not exactly vocational topics - but when I came to looking for my first 'proper' job I realised how relevant they were to research. They both require interpretation of numeric and qualitative evidence, ability to write compelling stories and, perhaps most importantly, are driven by a fascination in people. This interest in why people and societies do what they do has been the passion for me to continue learning about research. I started out as a quantitative researcher and creative facilitator at Research International (remember them?), since then, through stints at a range of agencies like System One (or BrainJuicer as it was) and The Sound and BAMM, I have enjoyed developing new lenses to understand behaviour. From ethnographic approaches to focus groups to surveys, my work has spanned the spectrum of the research industry. Alongside a keen interest in behavioural science, sparked during my time at BrainJuicer, I continue to enjoy learning new ways to see and applying that to the work I do.
