Background
I have 11 years experience as a qualitative researcher, gained through spells at research agencies and as a freelancer. My background is varied, however, and prior to this I worked as an archaeologist in the Middle East and Europe and as a web developer with a spatial analysis software company. In addition I have two Masters degrees, in Geographic Information Science and International Development. However, my underlying interest has always been understanding human behaviour, and over the last 11 years I have focused primarily on qualitative research.
Within this experience I have worked directly for research agencies specialising in government and public sector communications, children and youth, commercial markets and international development. This has provided me with wide exposure to different research programmes, both in the UK and in Eurasia, Africa and the Americas. As as result, I have learnt the robust disciplines that underpin effective research, as well as identifying where there are opportunities for innovation and more creative approaches.
I have particular interest in intercultural studies, and generating insight that helps inform campaigns and development programmes and strengthens audience engagement. I am a versatile and self-motivated researcher, and keep myself informed of innovations and developments across the various sectors I work in.
